For generations, talcum powder has been used in such popular products as baby powder and cosmetics. Recent studies, however, have shown that there is a link between the use of talcum powder and ovarian cancer. Johnson & Johnson, a manufacturer of talc-based products such as Johnson’s Baby Powder and Shower to Shower, is now the subject of two class action lawsuits that resulted from a successful lawsuit from Deane Berg, a resident of South Dakota. Berg stated in her lawsuit that she had been using Johnson & Johnson talcum powders for three decades without being informed of her increased risk for developing ovarian cancer. One year after she won her case and proved that women have not been sufficiently warned about the dangers of talc, the other two class action lawsuits were filed.
